The via
Aurelia at Capo
Noli (after Savona) is closed due to recent landslides and will
remain closed for some time, possibly until June 2008. The cause of the
landslides which occurred on 16 January 2008 was heavy
rain that the coastal region had seen. The rock fall damaged the
metallic nets that normally protect traffic traveling along this
beautiful route. Although it appears that the debris from the landslides have been cleared, the rock face remains in a dangerous condition. An alternative route has had to be found which will be a over the 4.7km long climb of Le Manie which reaches a height of 318m. The race distance has increased from 294 to 298km. The new climb will add an interesting factor to the race but it may be too far from the finish to play a part in deciding the winner. The landslide on the Passo del Turchino on 13 February does not appear to be a problem. The start will once again be from the Castello Sforzesco in Milan.
